Valentine P. Ananikov. «Self-Assembled Selenium and Sulfur Monolayers in Catalysis»

Ananikov-photoValentine Ananikov received his Ph.D. degree in 1999, Habilitation in 2003, and in 2005 he was appointed Professor and Laboratory Head of the ND Zelinsky Institute of Organic Chemistry, Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2008 he was elected as a Member of Russian Academy of Sciences. In 2012 he became Professor of Chemistry Department of Moscow State University. In 2013 he has received Megagrant of St. Peterburg State University and was appointed as Head of Laboratory of Cluster Catalysis.

Valentine Ananikov was a recipient of the Russian State Prize for Outstanding Achievements in Science and Technology (2004), an Award of the Science Support Foundation (2005), a Medal of the Russian Academy of  Sciences (2000), Liebig Lecturer by German Chemical Society (2010), and Balandin Prize for outstanding achievements in the field of catalysis (2010).

Scientist interests are focused on development of new concepts in transition metal and nanoparticle catalysis, sustainable organic synthesis and new methodology for mechanistic studies of complex chemical transformations. His research has been supported by grants of Russian Science Foundation, Russian Foundation of Basic Research and Grants of President of Russia.

Valentine Ananikov is a member of the International Advisory Boards of Advanced Synthesis & CatalysisOrganometallics, Chemistry An Asian Journal and OpenChemistry.

Vladimir Gevorgyan. «New Advances in Development of Novel Transition Metal-Catalyzed Synthetic Methodologies»

z_d84ebbc765Vladimir N. Gevorgyan is an outstanding organic chemist, professor of University of Illinois at Chicago, USA. He graduated from Kuban State University in 1978. In 1984 he defended his PhD thesis and than worked as group leader (1986–1991) in Latvian Institute of Organic Synthesis. Vladimir Gevorgyan completed Postdoctoral Fellows in Tohoku University, Japan (1992–1994). He was Visiting Professor in CNR, Bologna (1995), and than continued his work in Tohoku University (1996–1999). Since 1999 Vladimir Gevorgyan works in University of Illinois at Chicago.

Vladimir Gevorgyan is author of more than 150 scienctific articles in the field of transition metal catalysis: regio-and chemoselectivity of cyclization reaction, CH-bond activation, etc. Under his direction an unique method for the conversion of alkenes-1 to 1,4-diols with an iridium catalyst was developed. Vladimir Gevorgyan demonstrated that  a well-known hypnotic Zolpidem, which pharmaceutical company «Sanofi Aventis» synthesizes in six stages, could be prepared using one-step reaction.

Vladimir Gevorgyan was Researcher of the Year in University of Illinois at Chicago (2008) and in 2012 became Honorary Professor of Saint Petersburg State University. At the beginning of 2014 V. Gevorgyan won IUPAC international grant for development of new catalytic methods using readily available and cheap metals.

Rolf Gleiter. «From Long S–S Bonds to Supramolecular Aggregates – Aspects of Chalcogen-Chalcogen Interactions» (Abstracts)
Rolf Gleiter

Rolf Gleiter is an outstanding German chemist. He studied chemistry at the Technical University of Stuttgart. After his PhD in 1964 he did post doctoral work in the USA, one year (1965–1966) at Princeton University with P. v. R. Schleyer and two years (1966–1968) with Nobel Laureate R. Hoffmann at Cornell University. Back in Europe he started his independent work (Habilitation) from 1968–1972 in E. Heilbronner’s laboratory at the University of Basel (Switzerland). From 1973–1979 he was Professor of Chemistry at the Technical University of Darmstadt and from 1979–2005 at the University of Heidelberg. Since 2005 he is professor emeritus and since 2011 he is also senior professor at the University of Heidelberg. During his career he held visiting professorships in the USA, Australia, Russia, Israel, Japan, Iran  and Peru.

Rolf Gleiter is author of over 670 scientific publications and two books. His main interests are synthetic organic, inorganic, physical organic and quantum chemistry. Rolf Gleiter received several awards, among them are the Award of the Swiss Chemical Society  and A. Werner-Medal (1972), the Max-Planck Research Award (1991), Adolf v. Baeyer-Medal of the German Chemical Society (1994), Professor honoris causa of Moscow State University and Dr. honoris causa of the Russian Academy of Science (2003), Professor honoris causa of Saint Petersburg State University (2004) and the Medal of Honour of Ploiesti University (2006). Irina A. Zhurbina. «RFBR Programme to support young scientists»

FPD_5745Irina Zhurbina graduated with honors from the Physics Department of the Voronezh State University receiving a master’s degree in 2008. In 2012, she successfully completed her postgraduate project «Investigation of the effect of the photoexcitation and the adsorption of molecules on the electronic properties of nanocrystalline tin oxide layers» performed at the Faculty of Materials Science, Lomonosov Moscow State University and received a PhD degree in Physics and Mathematics. From 2009 to 2012 Irina Zhurbina worked in the management of metrology certification nanotehology and products of nanotechnology, National Research Center “Kurchatov Institute”, and since 2012 she is the head of youth programs (Scientific Secretary of the Expert Council on research projects of young scientists) at the Russian Fund for Fundamental Research.

Armin de Meijere. «Cyclopropanes, Natural Products and Metal Catalysis» (Abstracts)

Armin_de_Meijere_2005Armin de Meijere is a distinguished German chemist.  He graduated from the University of Göttingen (1963), worked there as an assistant, assistant professor, and associate professor until 1977. In 1977–1989 he was Professor of University of Hamburg, and from 1989 to the present time he is Professor at University of Göttingen.

A. de Meijer is author of over 670 scientific publications, 20 patents, and editor of of several monographs. He is one of the world’s leading experts in the field of organic and physical organic chemistry. His main achievements are associated with the development of methods for the synthesis of unique polycyclic, frame, and natural structures, strained small rings; synthesis of compounds with unusual carbon skeleton (highly strained and nucleophilic olefins); catalysis by metal complexes in organic chemistry; actual problems of theoretical and synthetic organic chemistry.

Armin de Meijere is laureate of of Chemical Industry Fund (1972), Gay-Lussac–Humbolt Award by Ministry of National Education of France (1996),  Honorary Professor of Institute of Chemistry at Saint Petersburg State University (1997). In 2005 he was awarded A. von Baeyer Gold Medal of the German Chemical Society. In 2009 Armin de Meijere was awarded a Doctor honoris causa of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In 2003 A. de Meijer founded a fund for support of young scientists of Saint Petersburg State University. This Fund annually provides two scholarships for students of the Department of Chemistry, specialized in organic synthesis.


Aziz Muzafarov. «Sodium oxy(alkoxy)silanolates (Rebrov salts) as unique reagents in chemistry of silicones»

Aziz M. Muzafarov is Russian chemist, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences since 2011 (Corresponding Member since 2000), an outstanding specialist in the field of macromolecular compounds. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Fine Chemical Technology (1973), defended his PhD thesis at the Institute of Organoelement Compounds of USSR Academy of Sciences (1981) and his doctoral dissertation at Institute of Physical Chemistry of Russian Academy of Sciences (1997). In 1993–2013 he was the head of the laboratory of synthesis of organometallic polymers at Institute of Synthetic Polymer Materials, Russian Academy of Sciences. Since 2013 Aziz Muzafarov is director of the N. A. Nesmeyanov  Institute of Organoelement Compounds, Russian Academy of Sciences.

Aziz M. Muzafarov is author of over 200 scientific publications in Russian and international journals  and of 30 patents. His research interests: methods for the synthesis of organosilicon compounds, new functional derivatives and reagents for molecular design of silicone polymers, synthesis and applications of dendrimers and hyperbranched polymers, new trends in polymer chemistry – multipath star-shaped block copolymers, the synthesis and characterization of polymers.

He is Laureate of the S. V. Lebedev Award of Russian Academy of Sciences for his works in 1988–1997 devoted to the synthesis of first organosilicon dendrimers and study their properties.


Matthieu Sollogoub. «Site-selective reactions on cyclodextrins, applications to catalysis and supramolecular assemblies»


Matthieu Sollogoub received his PhD at the Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Paris in 1999. After a postdoctoral stay at the University of Southampton, he was appointed Assistant Professor at the ENS in 2001. In 2007, he was appointed Full Professor at Sorbonne Universités, where he conducts his research team on various aspects of carbohydrate chemistry.

The research in Professor Sollogoub’s group centres on carbohydrates in the broadest sense and includes organic synthesis and methodology, inhibitor design, enzyme mechanism, supramolecular chemistry and catalysis. Notable recent achievements have included an “artificial” anomeric effect, the development of novel methods for the site-selective functionnalisation of cyclodextrins, the development of cyclodextrin-based catalysts with encapsulated metals, high TONs, high regioselectivities, high %Vbur, the new concept of pseudo-enantiomery, and the development of supramolecular hierarchical assemblies…

In 2010 Professor Sollogoub has been appointed to the Institut Universitaire de France (IUF), an elite French institution, in recognition of his contributions to teaching and research in chemistry in general and in carbohydrate science in particular. In 2011 he is the recipient of the Carbohydrate Research Award for Creativity, one of the three international prizes in the field. In 2013 he receives the Verdaguer award of the French Academy.
